POSITION: DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGIST

DEPARTMENT: Administration and Operations

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SUMMARY: The part-time Digital Communications Strategist supports The Resilient Activist’s mission by leading digital outreach efforts through newsletters, social media, and visual storytelling. This role also manages virtual event logistics, offers technical support, and provides backup administrative assistance. The position is ideal for someone tech-savvy, organized, and passionate about community resilience, mental health, and environmental justice.

Most tasks will take place during regular business hours, M-F, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.

NOTE: This position will be virtual, with a preference for Greater Kansas City Area applicants. Must be able to collaborate virtually with those in the Central time zone.

SALARY: Part-time, hourly, approximately 10 hours per week. Salary will be commensurate with experience, starting at $23 per hour..

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Newsletter Production & Management

  • Create and schedule The Resilient Activist’s twice-monthly MailChimp newsletter.
  • Upload new donor contacts and event participants into MailChimp with appropriate tags and groups.
  • Draft, format, and proofread newsletter content in alignment with TRA’s tone (uplifting, transparent, community-focused).
  • Schedule and send “Welcome Emails” to new subscribers prior to newsletter release.
  • Collaborate with the team to include event promotions, resilience resources, and partner content.

2. Social Media Management & Content Creation

  • Schedule posts for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn using MissingLettr, and publish Stories as needed.
  • Curate and create engaging mission-centered content, including graphics, quote images, video clips, reels, stories, and holiday acknowledgments.
  • Utilize brand assets and creative designs to enhance the quality of visual content.
  • Respond to audience comments, shares, and direct messages.
  • Update and maintain LinkTree with relevant links to events and content for Instagram.
  • Promote partner collaborations, board features, media appearances, and uplifting activism stories.

3. Virtual Event Management (Humanitix + Zoom)

  • Create, manage, and publish events on Humanitix and WordPress.
  • Write and schedule 3-part Humanitix email campaigns for event attendees (3-day reminder, 2-hour reminder, and post-event follow-up).
  • Build out WordPress event pages with consistent formatting, SEO-optimized content, and branded visuals.
  • Serve as tech support for virtual events as needed (Zoom breakout room management for Resilient Activist Conversations, chat moderation, etc.).
  • Coordinate and format post-event surveys and follow-up messages.
  • Maintain participant data, attendance records, and import contact info into MailChimp.

4. Video & Media Support

  • Curate, edit, and publish video content for YouTube, reels, and educational storytelling.
  • Create mini-series or highlight videos (e.g., meditation sessions, visionary activist interviews) as needed.

5. Backup & Support Roles

  • Provide backup IT and admin support when needed.
  • Support the blog editing process by reviewing drafts and collaborating with editors.
  • Upload participant data into spreadsheets and Google Drive folders with consistency.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with MailChimp, Canva, Zoom, WordPress, Humanitix, and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace – understanding of Google Drive/Docs/Sheets/Forms
  • Comfort navigating content scheduling tools (MissingLettr preferred).
  • Eye for design and passion for facilitating a consistent brand image across all communications.
  • Strong writing and editorial skills, especially with an uplifting and mission-aligned tone.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices for blogs and event listings.
  • Experience in online event coordination, email campaigns, and participant engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and strong organization.
  • Interpersonal skills with capacity for transparent communication, collaboration, and constructive feedback.
  • Strong wifi signal, personal laptop, and ability to coordinate with those in the Central time zone.
  • Comfortable communicating with and working with the public, our board of directors, and our partners.
  • Passion for social justice, environmental activism, and community resilience.

Bonus Experience (Not Required but Valued)

  • Graphic design experience or video editing skills.
  • Prior work in nonprofit or advocacy-based organizations.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed or mental health frameworks

Education/Experience/License/Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role
